MUSEUM OF CULTURAL ANTHROPOLOGY, RESEARCH INSTITUTE FOR LANGUAGES AND CULTURES OF ASIA, MAHIDOL UNIVERSITY

The Museum of Cultural Anthropology is located at Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia, Mahidol University, Salaya Campus. The vision is to be a social innovation enterprise. Its mission is to culturing cultural innovation for the benefit of mankind.

The museum exhibits academic progression of the Institution. The museum is also used as practicum arena for all museum people.

The museum of Cultural Anthropology is making an interactive conversation with audiences through ethnic traditional villagesscape recreated to represent their mundane life both tangible and intangible culture. Audiences will be able to learn about past, present, and challenged to ask a critical question about the future. Audiences are encouraged to learn via multiple sensory and provided digitalisation of learning to create a new experience rapidly and widely.

Now, the museum is under renovation of a permanent exhibition and underdevelopment of a new learning modality. Consequently, Museum will become a centre for transformative learning.

VIVID ETHNICITY

Vivid Ethnicity is a special ‘caravan’ exhibition of the Museum of Cultural Anthropology. The mission is to promote cultural integrity through quality and virtuous learning.

Vivid Ethnicity is an innovative learning device that consists of online and off-line libraries specializing in ethnic groups in Thailand and educational outreach programmes designed to suit different contexts. It also incorporates a museum shop and an ethnic coffee shop offering authentic ethnic products to enhance Social Enterprise for ethnic groups and raise fund for the museum.

The caravan travels to deliver transformative learning by design thinking for schools, museums, and communities to make a “conversation” and “practice” for creative solutions of real world problem.

ROYAL ARCHIVES OF QUEEN SRI SAVARINDIRA AND ROYAL ARCHIVES OF PRINCE MAHIDOL OF SONGKLA-PRINCESS SRINAGARINDRA

HM Queen Sri Savarindira, the Queen Grandmother, H.R.H. Prince Mahitala Dhibesra Adulyadej Vikrom, the Prince Father and H.R.H. Princess Srinagarindra, the Princess Mother graciously contributed to Faculty of Nursing, Mahidol University and nursing profession in Thailand. On the occasion of HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej granting money from “Somdet Phra Si Account, Bureau of the Royal Household” for construction of Mahidol Adulyadej – Phra Sri Nagarindra Building, the Faculty of Nursing establishes “Royal Archives of Queen Sri Savarindira” and “Royal Archives of Prince Mahidol of Songkla-Princess Srinagarindra” to express a great appreciation of their royal contributions.

These two Royal Archives display the biography and royal contribution to nursing, medicine and public health made by HM Queen Sri Savarindira, the Queen Grandmother, Their Royal Highnesses Prince Father and Princess Mother. These archives serve as sources of knowledge and transferring of the royal initiatives, together with gracious practices of all members of the royal family as role models and an inspiration for nursing students, nurses and all visitors.

Moreover, the faculty has the exhibition “Royal Archives of Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Kromluang Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra”, in order to honor and revere of Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Kromluang Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra graced to the Faculty of Nursing, Nursing and Thai Public Health. As well as being a source of learning for the younger generations to know about the royal duties of Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Kromluang Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra to sacrificed to improve the health and quality of life of Thai people.

Sireeruckhacharti Nature Learning Park

“Sireeruckhachati Nature Learning Park” has been named to honor Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. This is the 55-acres medicinal plant garden collected more than 800 medicinal plant species. The garden welcomes all visitor, including the elderly and disabled people, to explore medicinal plants in 6 learning zones in the beautiful universal-designed landscape. The interactive exhibition “Herbs, Thai Wisdom for the well-being of mankind” tells the story of Thai herbal medicine, from Thai traditional knowledge to evidence -based medicine, and implementation the knowledge and use the medicinal plant to take care our health in daily life. “Botanical Reference Centre on Thai Medicinal Plants” provides the authentic reference of Thai medicinal plants and crude drugs for botanical identification. The facilities include herbarium, crude drug collection and tissue culture laboratory for academic services and medicinal plant genetic conservation.

Sireeruckhachati Nature Learning Park is the medicinal plant garden which provides the various learning programs and activities for all visitors. Quality control and development of herbal material research are conducted here in order to provide scientific knowledge for agriculture and herbal industry in Thailand.

    MAHIDOL UNIVERSITY HALL OF FAME

    Mahidol University Hall of Fame focuses on the history and development of Mahidol University from past to present including achievements by members of Mahidol Community for the benefits of the society. On the 2nd floor, the exhibition “Wisdom of the Land” was established to commemorate the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Royal Bestowal of Mahidol University’s Name and the 131st Anniversary of Mahidol University. It depicts the journey of Mahidol University since it was a specialised university until having become the multidisciplinary university, under the concept “Power of Wisdom” which is broaden as the infinite waves on the surface of the river of knowledge.On the 3rd floor, is about the history and revolution of the university through different periods of time, the exhibition is divides by content into 3 zones:

    1. “Mahidol Today” The University is pictured here as a currently institution of excellence in terms of academics, research, service and quality of life of students, teaching staff and the entire personnel body
    2. Originally Established as “University of Medical Science” The focus is on history and development of the university during its fledgling period following the inception, the subsequent academic expansions, students’ lives and academic atmosphere during World War II and the development relating to the establishment of Siriraj Hospital.
    3. “Mahidol” – On the Path to ExcellenceThe zone features the university’s development, starting with His Majesty’s permission to use Mahidol, the Prince Father’s name, as the university’s new name in 1969, the subsequent land acquisition and the establishment of Salaya Campus, the students’ political role in the incidents of 14th October, 1973 and 6th October, 1976, the academic development toward excellence befitting its status as ‘wisdom of the land’ along with life on campus at present and the future outlook.

    H.R.H. THE PRINCE FATHER’S BIOGRAPHY GALLERY

    H.R.H. The Prince Father’s Biography Gallery features the Prince Father’s biography and important objects relating to the Prince Father who is regarded as role model and soul of Mahidol Community. The gallery is divided into 7 Zones:

    1. Wisdom of the Land The introduction of the exhibition displays H.R.H. the Prince Father’s portrayal as the model of wisdom of the land through the speeches and words of advice along with activities meant for the benefits of mankind

    2. ‘Chao Fa’ of the LandThe Exhibition focuses on H.R.H. the Prince Father’s concise biography starting from his birth to his death along with the context of Thai society and world society during 1892-1929, the arrival of Western civilization, the period of colonialism and humanism which had direct impact on the prince’s perception and personality.
    3. The Traveler PrinceThe focus is on the prince’s multiple trips, both in Thailand and abroad, which gave him the opportunity to witness the country and people’s way of living. His experiences and knowledge were portrayed through art works. Also displayed are the words of advice he gave to Thai students.
    4. The Light of WisdomThe exhibition focuses on the prince’s educational activities, his determination to create quality human resource, his financial support for education and the royal-sponsored scholarships.
    5. Medical Treatment Rendered with AffectionThe focus is on H.R.H. the Prince Father’s medical and public health activities and the medical treatment based on the principle of genuine care, both mental and physical. This and the fact that he never regarded himself as a high-ranking royalty made him a beloved person among the people who called him “the Prince Doctor”.
    6. Kanphai MahidolThe exhibition focuses on the prince’s beneficial activities which have brought about progress and prosperity to Thai society, be they in the areas of medicine and public health, education or other academic fields.
    7. Taking Roots in the LandThe focus here is on the efforts to uphold and continue the works initiated by H.R.H. the Prince Father.
